18 Melpomene

18 Melpomene is a large S-type asteroid in the asteroid belt. It was discovered in June 1852 by John Russell Hind. In December 1978 during a stellar occultation a possible moon of the asteroid was discovered, but its existence was not confirmed, and therefore it was no longer detected.
