2 Pallas is a large B-type asteroid. It was discovered by Heinrich Wilhelm Matthias Olbers in March 1802. It is the third largest asteroid in the Solar System, and constitutes 7% of the total mass of the asteroid belt. It is about 515 km in diameter and is a remnant of a protoplanet in a highly inclined orbit in the asteroid belt. In 2016, it was proposed to send the Dawn spacecraft to perform a flyby of Pallas, but this proposal was rejected in favor of continuing the observations of Ceres.
