Author(s): 参宿四and韶山8

Release date:

PSR J1719-1438 is a millisecond pulsar in the constellation Serpens Cauda, located about 3,900 light-years from the Solar System. A planetary-mass companion was discovered orbiting this pulsar via the pulsar timing method in 2011, with an orbital period of just 2.17 hours. It is estimated that the mass of this planet is approximately 1.2 times that of Jupiter, while its radius is only 40–50% that of Jupiter, giving it a density of about 23 g/cm³. The object is thought to be the crystallized carbon remnant of a white dwarf that was largely stripped by the pulsar, leading to its characterization as a "diamond planet".
