This is one of three military satellites seen during the beginning of the "Blue Danube" scene from the 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odyssey. This satellite was commissioned by the People's Liberation Army Air Force as an orbiting nuclear deterrent during the height of an ongoing Cold War, which later was destroyed by the Star Child off-screen. Unlike its two other known satellites, it is seen here orbiting the Moon
