DENIS-P J025503.3−470049, also known as DENIS 0255−4700 and 2MUCD 10158, is a single L8/L9-type brown dwarf about 15.9 light-years away in the constellation Eridanus . With an estimated mass of 0.025–0.065 M☉ (approximately 25–65 Jupiter masses) and a radius of 0.08–0.10 R☉ (roughly 0.8–1.0 Jupiter radii), it has an effective temperature of approximately 1,300 K and a luminosity of only 1.54 × 10⁻⁵ L☉ . It is the closest isolated L brown dwarf to the Solar System (the binary Luhman 16 being closer but consisting of two objects) The object exhibits a rapid rotation period of about 1.7 hours and its infrared excess, observed by WISE, is likely due to silicate clouds in its atmosphere .
