Pioneer 5 was a NASA mission that became the first spacecraft to study the interplanetary space environment between the orbits of Venus and Earth. Launched in March 1960, it continued to send data back for 3 months until June 1960, when the probe was beyond its designed transmission range with Earth, thus ending communications
