HD 73344, also known as HIP 42403, is a single F6V-type main-sequence star about 115 light-years away in the constellation Cancer. A system of three planets has been discovered: a transiting sub-Neptune (b) with a 15.61-day orbit, a Saturn-mass planet (c) with a 65.9-day orbit, and a Jupiter-like planet (d) with a mass of 2.55 Jupiter masses on a ~15.9-year orbit. The system's dynamics are notably unstable: the inner planets b and c are strongly coupled, and their long-term stability depends critically on their mutual orbital inclination. If the inclination exceeds ~60°, N-body simulations show the innermost planet's eccentricity rapidly rises to 1, leading to system disruption. The outer giant planet d is likely responsible for driving this complex architecture, possibly through past planet-planet scattering.
