Ceres is a dwarf planet located in the main asteroid belt, between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Discovered in 1801 by Giuseppe Piazzi, it was initially considered a planet, later an asteroid, and finally a dwarf planet. Ceres was extensively studied by NASA's Dawn spacecraft between 2015 and 2018.
