Cluster II is a constellation of four identical satellites developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) to study the Earth's magnetosphere in very eccentric high Earth orbits. Launched in two Soyuz-U/Fregat rockets in 2000, it also serves as a replacement to the original Cluster mission, which were destroyed during the failed maiden flight of the Ariane 5 rocket in 1996.
