MAVEN is a NASA spacecraft orbiting Mars to study the loss of its atmospheric gases to space, providing insight into the history of the planet's climate and water. It was launched in 2013, and arrived on Mars about 10 months later, around the same time as India's Mangalyaan-1 probe. It studied the Martian atmosphere until contact was lost in December 2025.
