Kepler is a NASA space telescope designed to discover Earth-sized exoplanets around other stars, and determine how common planets are in the Milky Way. During its operational lifetime from 2009 to 2018, it had observed more than 530,506 stars, and had successfully detected 2,778 confirmed planets (as of 2023)
