Also known as the Pioneer Venus Orbiter, it was a NASA mission dedicated to studying the characteristics of the Venusian atmosphere, in addition to providing surface radar maps from 1978-1992. Together with the Pioneer Venus Multiprobe (Pioneer 13), they were the last spacecraft launched as part of the Pioneer program
