52246 Donaldjohanson is a C-type asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt. It was discovered in 1981-Mar-2, by American astronomer Schelte Bus at the Siding Spring Observatory in Australia. It was aptly named after paleoanthropologist Donald Johanson. It is the second target of the Lucy mission, which performed a flyby at a distance of 960 km on 2025-Apr-20, revealing its contact binary shape.
