52246 Donaldjohanson is a C-type asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt. It was discovered in 1981-Mar-2, by American astronomer Schelte Bus at the Siding Spring Observatory in Australia. It was aptly named after paleoanthropologist Donald Johanson. The asteroid has a high light curve amplitude of 1.6, which suggests a highly elongated shape, a contact binary or potentially a synchronous binary system. It is one of the targets for the Lucy mission, with a flyby scheduled for 2025-Apr-20.
