V340 Serpentis is a binary star system consisting of an F-type giant star and a red dwarf about 13,800 light-years away in the constellation Serpens Cauda. The primary giant star is now on its post-AGB stage, slowly shedding its outer photosphere into a protoplanetary nebula until it becomes a small, dim white dwarf sometime in the distant future
