2MASS J03480772-6022270, also known as 2MASS J0348-6022, is a solitary T7-type brown dwarf located approximately 27.2 light-years away in the constellation Reticulum. With a mass estimated at about 43 times that of Jupiter and a radius roughly equivalent to Jupiter's, it occupies the boundary between the most massive planets and the least massive stars. The object is notable for its extremely rapid rotation, completing a full spin on its axis every 1.08 hours—nearly ten times faster than Jupiter—making it the fastest-spinning brown dwarf known at the time of its study. This rapid rotation causes the brown dwarf to flatten into an oblate spheroid, with a measured oblateness of 0.08. Its effective temperature is approximately 880 K, and it was initially discovered as part of the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) Wide-Field T Dwarf Search in 2003.
