DENIS-P J082303.1-491201, also known as 2MASS J08230313-4912012, is a single L1.5-type ultracool dwarf about 67.4 light-years away in the constellation Vela. In 2013, an unseen companion was discovered via astrometric measurements using the FORS2 instrument on the Very Large Telescope. The host has a mass of approximately 7.5% that of the Sun, which implies a companion mass of 28 ± 2 times that of Jupiter, placing it in the brown dwarf mass regime . The companion orbits its host every 246.4 ± 1.4 days on an eccentric orbit . With a mass ratio of 0.36 ± 0.02, this system has the smallest mass ratio of known very low-mass binaries with characterized orbits .
