Space Station Alpha is the name of the selected 1993 design that merged the former Freedom and Mir-2 concepts into the International Space Station. About 70% of the planned Alpha hardware were launched to form the ISS, with some modules being cancelled due to cost overruns and the 2003 Columbia disaster
