Jason is a series of NASA/CNES oceanographic altimeters satellites. Jason-1 operated from 2001-2013, Jason-2/OSTM from 2008-2019 and Jason-3, released in 2016, remains active. It is estimated that satellites, even after being deactivated, will remain in orbit for more than 1000 years.
